fresh install on macbook air from dvd (or download?)

So I purchased a windows 8 DVD, thinking I could make a bootable image and install it by usb key (macbook air does not have a dvd drive). I see a lot of information on how to burn a cd from a downloaded file, but not the other way around. Is it possible? Or is there somewhere I can download the image, using the product key from the cd? Help

Search on "make iso from dvd." You will find a number of possibilities, programs, etc. Also, why not buy an external DVD for the MacBook Air. I always do; they are inexpensive and I don't like having to fiddle around when I need to use a DVD. Do you have another computer (Mac or Win) with a DVD drive? If so, then you may be able share its DVD drive with your MacBook Air. Search on "sharing dvd drive with macbook air," and you will find what you need to know. Here is a link to get you started. You know you'll have to install Win8 via Boot Camp on a Mac, right? Also, Mac/Boot Camp support for Win8 is not yet a done deal. Some have done the installation, but there can be problems depending on a variety of things.

Thanks for the tips! I've found some inexpensive external drives, seems like a good thing to have regardless, as you said.
