Backup a preinstalled Win 8 for later

    Hello,

I recently bought a new notebook computer that came with windows 8. I would like to make a copy/backup of the windows 8 that was preinstalled, wipe the hard drive, and install a separate windows 7 license that I bought.

    Simply put:
-Create a copy/backup of the preinstalled win 8
-Wipe the hard drive and install win 7
-At a later date restore the win 8 as if it came when I first bought the notebook

Will using the ‘Create Recovery Drive’(with copying the recovery partition to the recovery drive) option under Advanced Recovery tools allow me to make such a copy/backup that will restore win 8 just as it arrived when I bought the notebook or do I need to follow another process?

While I am asking, the process to restore that win 8 partition in the future, which tutorial is appropriate to follow?

    Thanks in advance.

The answer was what I feared- currently there are no Asus-provided recovery tools to create a disk image for the G75VW with Windows 8. This was very surprising to me but right now this is the official word from Asus.

Will you need to use the Windows system image.

Oh wow, so I need to do at least the first two steps (system image and recovery drive), since the system repair disk is the same as recovery drive. Plus with the drive I can copy the contents of the recovery partition as long as the drive is big enough to store it. Ok seems straight forward enough. Thanks for the help. I will mark this topic as solved.

    Hi there
why not get a BOOTABLE stand alone backup and restore disk and just image the disk to an external HDD. I think in any case having a decent backup / restore program is ALWAYS a good idea. You can buy decent backup programs for around 45 USD -- believe me the amount of time and hassles you save by having one of these programs make them worth EVERY CENT.

    Cheers
