Unique Win8 win7 dual boot, is it possible?

I have a unique situation that I cant seem to find related inquries anywhere in my searches. As some of you may have experienced, I had my eye on a laptop for a few months waiting for funds to come in and the same model laptop I was looking at went from win7 64bit to windows 8 only over night. no warning, no option to customize back to win7, frusterating I know. I ordered the laptop anyways with the plans to dual boot win 7, creating a smaller win8 partition and a larger main win7 partition. Problem is I cant seem to find any related articles. every article is starting with win 7 and dual booting win8. I want to do the opposite.

I know there might be some complications with the order the OS's are installed, and ultimatly I want win7 to be my OS so if it isnt possible to dual boot 7 on top of 8, then I will just end up doing a fresh install.

Thank you in advance

The only way to dual boot those two at the moment is to install 7 and then proceed to partition your hard drive so you can install 8 on the empty one. You can message me if you like and i can walk you through it since i just finished doing two of these setups sucessfully.

This is when I get confused and frusterated in my search, one person is saying one the another person is contradicting that. I dont want to downgrade and then install 7 ontop of that. thars sounds messy and too much work way to many thinks could go wrong.

I was affraid that the order of the OS was not in my favor. so I was thinking outside the box, would it be possible in some way to "slide" the pre existing win8 install onto a usb or another drive temporarily so I can install win7 primarily on the laptop. then finishing with installing win8 (the one I slid to the side). install that one back on top of the win7 I just installed. I doubt that will be possible but its a sound idea. I just dont want to loss to win8 I just payed for with the computer.

Thanks again

its a toshiba P850, custom built with i7, 8GB ram, descreat graphics, 500GB HD 7200rpm.

I dont think any of the specs would effect whether I can achieve what I set out to do, but maybe im mistaken

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Theog, Will creating a recovery disk help me achieve what I explained above? Has it been done before? I dont want to try something experimental.

my knowledge of the recovery disk is that its for, well "recovering" a corrupt system to previous system setting. If thats true I am not seeing how this will help me achieve this unique dual boot?

Welcome to EightForums, plane 1 & kdarigliere.

You can install Windows 7 in dual boot first or second.

Follow Step one to five in this tutorial:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/13326-downgrade-windows-8-windows-7-a.html

Than follow this tutorial:

When you have made your Toshiba recovery disks, you could make a dual boot with Windows 7.

Than when you are done with Windows 7

The Recovery disks will return your PC back to the first time you booted up.

Yes I want to dual boot win7 on Top of an already existing win8 install. But You the method you suggest seems to imply a temporary nature, that I will have to delete windows7. or wont have to option to switch back and forth fron both OS. it seems like ill need to recover windows 8 every time I would like to play around. I dont believe thats a true dual boot.

am I missunderstanding you somewhere?

I give you a option to delete Windows 7, if you wanted to, say in two months time.

alright, I have to say thank you for dealing with my missunderstanding. Can you spell it out for me just so we know we are on the same page, how will it work exactly?

I will be able to boot into win8 or 7 when ever I like on a whim? right? I dont have to be stuck in win7 and then use the recovery disk to enter win8? what is the failure rate of this? I dont want to **** up my brand new laptop with an unsure method. I hope you understand my need to confirm every detail of this proccess.

Thank You!!!
