Clean install stalls

I’m trying to install Windows 8 in a clean partition (Disk L.) The first partition (Disk C) has Windows 7 Ultimate which I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro.

Trying to do a clean install, starting from a DVD, the firststep of the installation goes well. In the custom option menu I selected theclean partition (Disk L) and the first stage seems to go well. Whenthe PC restarts, the screen remains blank. After waiting 60 minutes, I finally gave up and powered down thePC.

On the reboot, no dual boot option appears. The windows 8 logo comes up and then thescreen remains blank. I do see thecursor when I move the mouse.

Using the install disk, I went to the upgraded Windows 8partition (Disk C) and set MSCONFIG to default to the upgraded partition and theboot for the unfinished install to Safe Mode. On a restart I was able to select the OS I wanted. I checked the partition where the stalledinstall was directed and found about 15 files in it. The unfinished OS (Disk L)gave me the message that the installation could not continue in Safe Mode.

I guessing 60 minutes was ample time for the cleaninstall. Any suggestions on what couldbe stopping the clean install would be appreciated.
