Solved Reinstall? from x32 to x64 Win 8

Hi, my dad just bought a Win8 Pro and asked me to install it in his old Laptop. I was a bit hasty, and I inserted the x32 bit cd instead of the x64 bit. The Laptop has currently 2gb Ram and installed with the activated Win8x32.

I wonder if I could do a reinstall of the x64bit? will it still used the same key without problems and will it remove the first win8 install? I have gone around the net searching to possible answers but im still in doubt. I only have 1 win8 key, so i dont want any problems regarding reinstalling and losing a key.

Yes, you could do a clean install with 64-bit Window 8 to replace the 32-bit one, and use the same key to activate the 64-bit.

Hi Brink, thanks! i really thought I'd be in trouble. . so I can install win8x64 inside win8x32? and wait for the reboot prompt right?. . it seems I kinda got a hang of the win8 interface, I might get a copy for myself. . thanks for the help!

btw i tried it.. it says cannot run app in my PC.. so that means I cannot install the x64? the laptop has 2gb as requirement for x64 right.. how come..

You will not be able to install 64-bit from within Windows 8 32-bit. Instead, you must do it at boot from your bootable 64-bit Windows 8 installation DVD or USB.
