Okay as stated in the title I had to use a recovery.iso via usb to get windows to boot.. here's what happened

I tried using windows disk management to shrink the windows partition to setup dual boot with Ubuntu 12.10, well that didn't turn out so well, it told me I could not shrink the partition because there was disc errors and it told me to run a chkdsk, so I did so and when it tried to boot after completing it rebooted again and ran the chkdsk again then it turned off and I couldn't get past the Samsung splash screen

so I hopped on my hp envy and found a system recovery iso and did a factory reset and now when I go to the windows 7 style desktop it says my windows license is expired

what can I do to fix this?

thank you :)

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Looks like you got the wrong media. It's not a match to your BIOS SLIC table so your original OEM SLP activation is broken.
If that laptop still has the COA sticker with a readable product code, you can do a clean install and use that code. You'll likely have to do a phone activation. Its shouldn't be a problem once you explain what you did. You can get an ISO image here.
Windows 7 Digital River direct links: Multiple Languages; X86 & X64 - Page 60
Just download the one that matches the version listed on your COA sticker.

My computer came preloaded with windows 8 so that suggestion won't work will it?

And Samsung told me that can service it but its $39 n I just spent every last penny I had on these 2 laptops.. I figured if you buy a $1500 laptop the least the could do is send you the iso that the techs use to properly partition the drive and reinstall windows the right way...

You had the option to make Samsung Recovery DVD's, why did you not make them?

Ops, sorry, mixed up which forum I was on when I got the e-mail. Yeah, that won't work. Sorry to say, you should have made the recovery disks when you had the chance. I don't have a source for official Microsoft Windows 8 images and your PC likely doesn't have a COA sticker. I think you're in a real pickle now. If I think of something I'll post back.
