Hi there
after successfully applying the 2 updates that people have had trouble with I can no longer shut down or restart my computer. Only a hard switchoff get it to stop.

No Viruses and ran the /scannow.

!!

Computer is usually NOT on the internet and even if it were there's nothing a potential hacker could get as my real work is done via a totally separate Virtual Machine anyway.

Cheers

Hi there
Thanks for suggestion -- I don't really want to do this though. I suspect that I couldn't anyway because the computer won't restart to create the startup options in any case. !!!!!!!

I'll just restore an image prior to applying these two fixes
Seems to be the easiest without losing any installed programs.

KB2770917 and KB2770041

I installed the two updates and I did not face any shut down problems..

System restore is the best option. or you could use your system image

You can boot the DVD for all options.

Hi there
system restore from backup -- worked fine.

But now I've got that well known problem Update fails again at 15% when trying to install those 2 fixes-- still it's only a "Test system" so I'm not too bothered as Windows defender definitions always update correctly and those can be done manually from within Windows defender itself.
