    "Just personal files"

    Hello all,

I'm sure this has been dealt with already, though I wasn't quite able to find an exact answer in my searches; I hope you'll indulge my confused question.

I'm running the Release Preview at the moment, and I wanted to know what the folders are which 'personal files' entails. I know program installations don't carry over, of course, but I am not clear on what does.

I know that, but what I'm unclear about is which folders are transferred in an upgrade from RP to full, and what the "Windows.old" folder contains.

your personal files would be what is in Pictures, Video, Music, and Documents, they will be saved in the windows.old folder... also will be the windows folder and programs folders, so you have drivers etc.

Thanks very much. I don't actually have many programs installed except for Steam games since I knew I'd be moving to the full version when it came out, so I'll copy the steamapps folder to My Documents.

What I want is a simple answer. Failing that, an answer that is not too complicated. In my line of work, I am continually installing and reinstalling Windows and, on top, client-specified applications. Ever since I went over to Windows x64; first, version 7; then 8, now 8.1, I have had recurring...
