By default Windows won't let you install the OS to a removable/external drive. It's that way by design. To do that you would have to create a Windows To Go install. That's really only an option on the Enterprise version. You'd have to do it manually on any other version. I personally wouldn't recommend installing Windows to an external drive, performance is going to suffer and you'll likely run into other issues.

I would think that depends on the BIOS. It's been a while since I played around with a Windows To Go setup, but I do remember having to play around with some BIOS settings to get it to boot. It wasn't as easy as just telling my motherboard to boot from USB.

Make sure your BIOS is trying to boot first from the USB device. At the moment only certain devices are certified for WTG.

yes i set booting first to my USB external drive but still not happening,i restarted and tried again, no chance . i also checked my bios, there are some settings related with usb 3 ;

usb controllers : enabled
usb 3: enabled

i mean all enabled from bios, am i missing something?

Your Windows To Go install may not be bootable? Maybe you made a mistake while creating it?

Ok, its bootable then. So that would make me think that you can't boot from your USB 3 ports?

What I have heard is that there are a sufficient number of problems with W8's USB3. Some have been solved already, so it would be a good advice to apply the latest updates for W8 (I really saw issues vanish by it for people).

Otherwise look here : Windows 8 USB 3 compatibility - Neowin Forums
Not the same problem, but it looks of similar origin to me. Comes with a solution as well ...
