Help to do a clean reinstall Windows 8

Couple of days a go I purchased a HP H9 1120A with Windows 7 Pre installed. The reason for choosing this PC was due to its high end CPU & 120 GB SSD Drive.

I went through the upgrade process and and installed the Windows 8 (I also made a USB media back up of tehh Win 8 install files). All went ahead without a hitch.

When I went in to check the drive I realised there was only 30 GB of free space left on the SSD drive. HP partitioned 30GB for Win7 receovery and the rest is full HP bloatware I do not need & the Windows 8 install files.

I would like to start again and clean up as much space as possible on the SSD drive.

The first step is to move the Win7 recovery to a new non SSD partition and recover the 30 GB space into the c: drive.

The next step is to do a clean install of the Win8, without any of the HP bloatware. My question is how do I go about doing this? If I format the drive and start again I assume my upgrade product key will not activate.

    Any comments.

    Thanking you in advance.

Ahhh my friend. Welcome to the forums

I am going through exactly the same dilemma on a friend HP Envy. Now after much frustration this is what I have found.

The Raid array needs to be switched to AHCI. Now here's where the problem lies. There is no option for this... anywhere. I have been on the phone to HP support, and no one is able to help in this situation.

The cleanest way I've been able to get 8 running on this machine. Do a recovery and select the Minimal Image option. (Very little HP bloatware. Kudos to HP for including this option!) Run the Windows 8 upgrade from within Windows. (Copy the install files to desktop) The reason... you will need to uninstall the usb 3.0 drivers, which will render your flash drive useless during the upgrade.

Hope this helps until I get a solution myself! The upgrade does go well and everything is really snappy if that makes you feel any better about it.

Now that I have re-read this post...

Have you tried formatting the drive yet? I have no access to format, not even in cmd pre-boot.

My laptop is still running Vista, so when I upgrade to Windows 8, I'll have to do a clean install. I don't mind having to re-install all my programs, but I need to be certain I'll be able to re-install Office 2007, since there's no way I'm going to buy it twice for a single computer. I've...

Let's say your computer comes with Windows 8 (not 8 Pro) preinstalled, using a SLIC and not a product key. Yu decide you hate the OEM crapware and want to do a clean reinstall. Bt you don't have reinstallation media, or the media includes the crapware. What are your options?
