Please help - Completely stuck with Windows 8 installation

Hi all,

I'll do my best to explain the problem as clearly as possible. I installed Windows 8 Pro on my Desktop PC using the web-based installer, and it had been working fine with no problems. A problem developed with the power unit of my PC and I needed to do a refresh installation of Windows 8, keeping the old settings but basically installing Windows 8 again on the same PC. Initially I thought Windows 8 was working fine but now I am unable to access the C drive of my computer and can't make any changes to files or anything. I'd even uninstall the operating system and start again from scratch if I could but it won't let me do that. Can't log in to ASP account, can't set admin status on any file, even changing the desktop background seems too much to ask. About the only thing I can do is restart the computer and access files on my desktop. If anyone could please help that would be great. Thanks for reading.

Tom.

Hello EGuitar. Welcome to the Eight Forums.

Here's my 2 cents worth. Others will add more. Since you have already tried other options, can you create a bootable installation DVD from the ISO of the Windows 8 product that you bought. Can you save your work files to another drive? Have you ever done a clean install?

Are you still having problems with your power supply?
Probably a good idea to fix that issue first.

If the power unit was bad I would of just replaced the power supply and just booted the system back up why the refresh install. What is the ASP account, I don't have one used a USB with ISO image for my install of W-8 Pro myself. Sorry I am not much help.

Thanks for replying both.

mdmd: I literally cannot download any files from the Internet. My computer seems to be locked onto the absolute strictest settings, where I need admin privileges to do even the tiniest things. I can't even install it onto my external drive and load it that way, and the C drive is a definite no access: "C is not accessible. Access is denied.". I try going into my user account settings through control panel and a User Account Control window comes up telling me to enter my ASP account password, which I do to get the message "User has not been granted the requested log-on type".

sandman: The power supply was replaced, new fan and switch installed, cleaned, etc. When the system was started again, the Windows logo appeared but then a black screen was shown which would not disappear. Not sure what the ASP account is, but I'm guessing with my current security settings it is something like Alcatraz-level Security Protocol ;)

Thanks again for replying. Any further help would be appreciated.

Tom.
