Deleting Windows 7 from Dual Boot

After trying out the Windows 8 I decided to delete the Windows 7. When I went into the disk manager, I found that it appears that the Windows 8 partition has the MBR in it. But when I go to delete the W7 partition I get a warning message. I have attached it.

It's a partition that I created from the C: drive for W8. It was unallocated and then W8 install created it.

I just wanted to confirm whether I need to use EasyBCD to move the MBR or if I am safe in deleting the partition with the W7 on it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jim

Initially I was surprised you wanted to keep win8 and remove win7.

You can't move the mbr - it isn't in a partition.

It isn't clear what is in use on your D partition.

Could be any number of things.

Perhaps log off and on and see if it is any different.

I would strongly recommend you make an image of your win7 partition before doing anything irreversible. Free version of Macrium or Paragon will do the job.

    It's odd. When I log onto W7, W7 partition is C: and W8 is D:. When I log onto W8, that is C: and W7 is D:.

The research I saw was that the MBR is on the first OS loaded. But when in W8 (c it shows crash, dump and all that stuff on c:.

I just don't want to be in a situation where I can't boot my laptop if I delete it.

    See my previous post.

It is normal for the drive letters to be different when viewed from different os - don't worry about that.

When deleting win 7 as dual boot you must be logged on to win 8
Press win key + R type (msconfig) go to the tab (Boot) and delete win 7 from there.
    Safe way…

That removes the boot menu entry only.

That’s the way I was told… now I see the problem.

FlightMedic - Why would you want to delete the Win 7 partition and not just format it? The only reason to delete it would be if you wanted to merge the empty (unallocated) space into the Win 8 partition, which isn't a straightforward procedure.

+ format the partition in which W7 resides.
