Install Windows 8 onto formatted drive with USB??

    Hi,
My laptop crapped out so I formatted the hard drive. It used to have Vista Premium but I don't have the restore disks. My CD ROM drive it not working so I only have access to a USB flash drive. I now have Windows 8 Pro installed on my desktop and would like it on my laptop. Is there any possible way of doing this? Also, my desktop is 64 bit and my laptop is 32 bit. I feel like my situation couldn't be worse but hey maybe there's a way.

    Thanks for the help!

    Dave

You will need to download the 32 bit version and buy another key. During the download, take the path to create media and create a .iso file.

Download Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 and run it, no installation needed.

Select Windows 7 (or Windows 8 if there) from the first drop down box.
Point to the .iso file you created.
Point to your flash drive and off you go.

20 minutes or so and you have a installable Win 8 from a flash drive.

Great! Thanks for the quick response! So, then I currently have the 64 bit version, right? I guess that's obvious! lol Now, is there a way to download the 32 bit version from a 64 bit cpu? Doesn't it do use the version checker to download it? Thanks for the help!

Windows 8 Pro upgrade. I guess then I'll also need the 32 bit version to even make the boot, right?

If you need to download 32bit Windows 8, download from a 32bit PC.

If you are going to run win8 on both machines ( Lord knows why - except it is cheap, I suppose ), then you will need 2 licenses.

There should be a way of downloading the bit version you want - instead of relying on that esd downloader thing.

I understand why MS are doing it this way - I helped them out a lot last time when they made a mess of the win7 upgrade downloads.

Yeah thanks kind of the reason. At this point it's either I buy my factory restore disks or a 32 bit Windows 8. $$ is a factor. But now will I even be able to use the upgrade if my hard drive is formatted??
    Thanks!

You do have a qualifying license for that machine.

It is just that the qualifying os isn't on there.

If you can get hold of any vista install dvd - you can install to the lappie ( all the editions are on the official dvd's ),if you need to activate it - you should have a vista home premium key somewhere - possibly under the battery.

If not, then perhaps ring MS and explain - they are very good about that sort of thing. They will love that you want to get two win8 licenses.
