Hi there to the community,
I currently have windows 7 as my main OS on my laptop and i just got the final release of windows 8 and wanted to dual boot. I've searched and read quite a few tutorials on how to partition and setup windows 8 on a separate volume etc... Everything went well when I start up with windows 8 but then when starting up with windows 7, I get this screen going into auto repair. I've searched around and saw quite a few posts on this issue. I've tried EasyBCD and Visual BCD as seem most have mentioned to do so but all have failed. I also saw many posts showing how to manually input commands etc.. for the boot loads but I am very new to this so I get lost pretty much all the time. Is there a tutorial or can anyone show me how to fix this issue step by step? As in where to do what, when to type what etc...? I've just recovered my windows 7 image to get it to start by default again and tried the auto fix with easybcd, visual bcd after the recovery but I'd still get in to auto repair when booting windows 7

will that surely fix the dual boot problem that many have been having? I wouldn't want to have to try it then have to recover my windows 7 again if it's not surely going to fix the problem. Reading the information on the refresh post it seems to be used if windows 8 is having problems. I'm having issues booting windows 7 in dual boot. By default as I've read in other posts, the boot loader of the new OS installed takes over the old one, so refreshing windows 8 wouldn't seem to work for it's like reinstalling windows 8 again except preserving certain changes made in windows 8.

Refresh will repair the boot problems, if repairable.

I couldn't Repair, I had some sort of error which brought me to the only option of restarting again. It said:

There Was A Problem
Restart your PC to try again
It looks like something didn't load correctly. Restarting might fix the problem. If this happens more than once, you might also be able to find help by searching onlinefor the specific code error.
Error code: 80070490

So I'm now stuck with windows 8 and can't boot in to windows 7. Can anyone be more specific in the actual problem and how to solve it? Also, that error code doesn't seem to exist on the internet yet since there was no results in searching that code.

I did a fresh install of windows 8 with no updating done whatsoever. It was just after the installment i couldn't refresh and got that error. The code didn't have "0x" before the numbers. If each error has a different code i wouldn't think 0x80070490 and 80070490 is the same?
