anyway to install from formatted drive ?

is there anyway to install windows 8 pro upgrade onto a bare drive without first installing a previous qualifying OS ? can i format the drive then boot from cd and point windows 8 setup to an install cd and thereby bypass the need to have previously a qualifying OS when asked for proof of an upgrade ?

It's exactly what I did. I partitioned my hard drive, install from iso that was made from the installation process. Works like a charm.
