So I bought the upgrade from BestBuy the other day and I have had nothing but problems since then. I've gone through 3 Microsoft Tech suppoort agents to no avail. The very first time I got the error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and then the second time I got MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. After that it alternated between hanging at the "Getting Devices Ready" at 86% and not doing anything, and hanging there and restarting. Each time it restarted I got the MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION error. I'm not sure what steps I need to take in order to provide you with the information you need ot help me but if you let me know I will happily provide it.

Can you tell us what you upgraded on top of? (7, Vista, the Free Preview?) If you bought the store DVD, did it first run Download Assistant?

I upgraded with download from Microsoft pre order service. I ran download assistant. I upgraded windows 7. Microsoft customer service in India tried for two hours approx to find what was wrong and couldn't fix it. They are supposedly going to ring me on Monday with what the person said was a number two person who knows more about Windows 8. He asked if I had the same problem wit Windows 7. I told him that I had no problems with Windows 7. Thanks for your reply
