So I had win7, did the windows 8 upgrade and it went fine. I've decided to reorganize how my drive is setup, so when I went to re-install on the drive for windows it installed but says my key is only good for upgrades. Are they saying I have to actually re-install windows 7 again first then wipe it out?
This is pretty ridiculous, can't it just check my old win7 cd or something? They know I upgraded already from a valid product.
I always end up getting screwed over by this activation crap even though I paid for my copy.

Ok, reinstalled 7 then 8 again(formatting during the installer) and it worked.
Guess it has to see a copy of 7 somewhere when the installer is started.
