Greetings,
I am waiting for my Win 8 disks and want to set up dual Boot with Win8 on a new 240Gb SSD. All the tutorials show how to do that from Win7 or Vista but do not mention XP. Can a follow the tutorial when installing from XP? I don't want to upgrade XP, just dual boot either Win8 or XP.
Thanks,
Art

Partition your HD.
Free Partition Magic alternative & free Partition Manager Software for Windows PC, Workstation and Server - EaseUS.
Set bios to boot from CD/DVD drive, and insert W8 DVD.
When you get to the screen where to install, select your new partition, and don't mess with the XP one. Let 8 install.
Voila :) You'll get the option to boot to XP or 8 at boot.

I guess I wasnt clear. I don't want to change my existing XP installation. I am adding a new SSD drive that is totally blank and I want to be able to boot my old XP system or, by default, the new Win8 system. I'm pretty sure I can but I would like confirmation. Thanks for the reply.

Well, I've received my Win 8 disks but my SSD that I want to install it on isn't here yet. I've been reading a lot of forum posts and I've got more questions. My current PC is running XP Pro and it has no win7 or win8 drivers. I also downloaded EASYBCD 2.1 but it won't install in XP. I think it will run in Win8 so my first question is will I be able to install WIN8 onto the new blank SSD drive and then set up dual boot with Easy BCD? Another question, if I have to install a bunch of Win8 drivers will that negatively affect my XP installation. Ideally what I'm trying to accomplish is to be able to boot either operating system at startup and have normal operation on both. I have some programs that I don't want to lose access to that I don't think will run in WIN8 so I really don't want to negatively affect my XP installation.
Thanks,

Not need.

Yes, but you may need Sata Controller Drivers.

if I have to install a bunch of Win8 drivers will that negatively affect my XP installation.

If the reason you want to dual boot is for programs, you can run the programs in compatibilty mode. Say you insert the instal disk, open My Computer, navigate to the program setup file, right click it, select compatibility, and run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3. What programs are you worried about?

Yes, if you have WinXP Pro installed on your system, Win8 WILL install. Just exit WinXP and restart your system and make sure your Win8 disk is in your DVD drive. There will be a point when Win8 will ask you where you want to install to. Make sure you select a partition that WinXP IS NOT installed on.

I've done this and there was no problems with the installation.

I also setup another multi-boot system which now how WinXP Pro, Vista Ultimate, Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 8 Pro, and had no problems with the installation...

Thanks for all the advice, guys. It looks like I will be ok. The main reason I'm upgrading is my old XP is getting bogged down. It needs a clean install but instead I'm adding a SDD and a clean install of Win 8. It's going to take a long time to get all the stuff I feel I need onto win 8 and I will be very frustrated and need a way to get something I need by booting my old XP. One of the main programs I'm concerned about is AutoCad 2000. I had a hard time getting it to run in XP and didn't want to chance it not working in Win8. I build RC model airplanes and I use autocad to draw the plans. My SSD is due in next Wednesday so that's when I'll find out how much trouble I'm in.

Thanks again,
