Sorry for the basic question but...after following the guide from the quoted link, do i now have to identify and/or convert something from its contents into an "iso file" in order to reset and install? Or is the USB as it now essentially the same thing?

It is essentially the same thing and you should be able to use DVD burn program to create iso from it

My preference is to create the ISO file from the download then create a bootable USB from that, having the ISO allows me to make DVD or USB at anytime

Use oscdimg or cdimage or mkisofs or I believe imgburn will do it , etc.

Should be very easy for forum regulars.

The drawback to the iso - whichever way you make - there is no install.wim . Instead there is an install.esd.

It is heavily compressed so the download is smaller - problem is you can't do much with it except install. I haven't figured out how to customise that.

If you want a proper install.wim - either get hold of the msdn .iso, or make your own install.wim
Could I use my Windows 8 Enterprise install.wim?
