Hello all!


After a gazillion problems while installing W8, I finally won the game and W8 was installed on nmy laptop. Victory..but that didn't last long. When I shut down the system, only W8 shuts down, not the hardware... So when I manually turn off the laptop, it won't reboot again. No boot manager, cannot get into the BIOS, etc. Really have to take out the HDD, remove all partitions before I can reboot (and reinstall). I use a legit W8 version, checked everything twice and now I'm out of ideas. Anyone smarter then me with some brilliant ideas?

Installed 8 yesterday on a year-old Sony Vaio. Went through the conflict check, removed three programs Microsoft identified as incompatible, proceeded with smooth install... and on last reboot the machine turned into a brick -- black screen. Windows 8 technical support, this morning, says that their conflict check does not include bios, that some old bios are incompatible and an 8 install will kill the machine -- and if I have problems with that, consult Sony, because it isn't Microsoft's fault that they don't check for bios compatibility or say a bios update is essential before installation. We are on the list to pre-order the real Surface when they become available, but this is certainly making me reconsider staying with any Microsoft products.
