    Upgrading to Windows 8 Pro?

Okay, so I know that if you want to install Windows 8 Pro, which I want, you need to have Windows 7 installed, in my case Windows 7 Ultimate, or any previous version of Windows. I must admit that all the versions of Windows I've used so far were pirated, including the one I'm currently running. I also have a genuine version of Windows 7 Ultimate, but without a license key. So, if I install that Windows 7 Ultimate but not activate it because of obvious reasons, can I upgrade it to Windows 8 Pro and manage to activate it? I don't think it will work because Windows 8 Pro has to detect an activated operating system with a valid key, hasn't it? I want to become a good person and stop using pirated software by buying Microsoft's Windows 8 Pro and repaying them for the work they did in the same time. Not really, but it's cheap, so why not? I could always buy the OEM version, but that will not happen as the price is too high. Why pay so much for an operating system, when I can go and visit Greece with the money I save! Anyway, do you think my method will work?

    P. S. If this thread bothers someone, an administrator for example, you are free to delete or close it.

    UPDATE
Because some of the members and guests may be bored by theog's stubborn nonesense, risking not to get to read the good part, I'll post strollin's reply here, in the hope that this helps others as it helped me.

I didn't feel like going thru the telephone activation process at the time so just proceeded with the upgrade to Win 8 fully expecting that the installer would see that I was attempting to upgrade an un-activated copy and refuse to install. To my surprise, the Win 8 install completed without a hitch and activated fine.

I could always buy the OEM version,
That would be the way to go.

Are you sure there's no other way? If that's so and I will not be able to upgrade, please explain why. Is it because of the registration key? We can also wait and see, maybe someone tried it and it worked. I'm saying this because I've read somewhere about someone who did the same thing I want to do, and got positive results, meaning that he ended up with a fully activated working Windows 8 Pro version. Also, thanks for the reply!

However, as mentioned above, I don't have the registration key anymore. What I want to know is if a Windows 8 Pro VUP version can successfully replace an inactivated genuine Windows 7 Ultimate version.

I'm sure you don't, that's why I stopped talking about my pirated operating system, and started talking about the upgrading process. I only asked you guys how does the process work, nothing more, nothing less. If you have doubts on the nature of the upgrading process I was talking about, I assure you I am referring to the one of a Windows 8 Pro, not to a pirated Windows 7 Ultimate upgrading process. Where's the crime in that?
