X48 chipset not compatible with Windows 8

After three days of trouble shooting my system with MS. It turns out that my Gigabyte X48-DQ6 MB is not compatible with windows 8. Intel X48 chipset is a no go at this point.

Has anyone come across this issue confirm or dispute it?

I don't see anything there that would cause Windows 8 failure, as long as the CPU you've installed supports DEP and you have at least 1GB of memory installed...

Fill in your specs, and let's see if we can help. The only thing that should block Windows 8 is the absence of NX support in the BIOS or from the CPU (some Intel CPUs don't support NX - that could be what they were pointing to. That chipset fully supports NX, according to Intel).

Hm - that CPU does support NX, and that motherboard will run Windows 8 just fine. If you don't mind me asking, what specifically did the Microsoft representative say?

well he did not say that the problem was in the processor. I allowed them to "logmein" my machine for a couple of days to trouble shoot and they were unable to get it to load.

He left me with the suggestion of updating my bios and or contacting the manufacture to inquire about compatibility.

It was Gigabye that suggested that the X48 chipset may be the problem.

Do any socket 775 CPU's support NX. If I can find one maybe I will try it.

My other options are to build a new system or stick with win 7(which may be a good idea)

A $60 G630 is twice as fast as that processor (just saying), but as far as I can tell, you should have no problems. Why not give the enterprise evaluation a shot? If you have a spare HDD, disconnect the Win 7 one, and use the other HDD for a fresh install.

Well, a few things here - Microsoft support doesn't use LogMeIn, they use LiveMeeting (or EasyAssist, which is just a layer on top of LiveMeeting). Second, I have an Asus P5E3 motherboard in a system running Windows 8 RTM (Intel x48) that works fine, so I can't say that the comment from Gigabyte is anything more than guesswork. The problem could be anything, but I can say it wouldn't be the CPU, shouldn't be the chipset itself, and unless Gigabyte is doing something stupid in their BIOS (which you should have the latest version for your motherboard installed, if you don't already) that isn't likely to be it.

What specific issues are you having? Let's start with those.

Well logmein is what they used, but that is beside the point. I will try updating the bios.

Yeah - if they used LogMeIn, it wasn't actually Microsoft, hence my quibble . After updating the BIOS, let us know what happens, specifically, when you try to install Win8. We'll figure it out if we can, honest .
