Considering pros and cons of new install over updating. I have vista 32 with microsoft works that came with the Dell

I checked online and my processor is 64 capable. Is there a real advantage of installing 8pro 64, which I have the disk for install? Or should I just stick with the 32 upgrade option? Am I getting into a host of problems trying to convert this system to 64? How does the processor make the change (Bios)? Do I have to make this change manually?

TIA

If u have a x64 capable processor as u say, u have nothing to worry about.
No reason not to be using a x64 os in this age, x86(32 bit) has it's limitations.

Just be aware there's no upgrade path to Win8 x64 from a 32bit OS. It'll be a clean install, not an upgrade, so you should be sure to back up your files before any changes.

you have to back up your files with any kind of upgrade, and you also have to make regular back-up after, Usually Hard-Drive die without notice.

Thanks for the info. I have done many clean installs so shouldn't be a problem, however this is my first going to 64bit. Will my existing software, for example M. Works 2003 work in 64 once reloaded?
