My Windows Upgrade Assistant gives me only 1 option.

Hi, I have 2 hard drives, one is a hard disk drive which has almost everything, then my solid state drive which has my OS, Windows 7. I used the Windows Upgrade Assistant, and it said I can carry over nothing, and that is my only choice. Will everything and anything on my HDD and SDD get obliterated? My SSD has everything from Flash and Java to drivers. Please explain/help.

No, Windows does not delete anything. It will, however, copy it to a folder called Windows.OLD.

So it will do a clean install, but you can find anything in your old install in the Windows.OLD folder.

Copy what to a folder, the stuff on my SSD? Or EVERYTHING?

It copies anything in your current Windows folder, Program Files, Program Data, Users, etc.. it will not touch anything that's not in a Windows system folder or the Users folder.

Of course, caveat emptor. You should do a backup anyways, weird things have been known to happen.

So it will only touch things in the windows folder, and what if my users folder is in my HDD, not where windows is? Will I have to move it to the HDD again after getting Windows 8? Or will it only touch the windows folder in the SDD?
