I really like some challenges and this is what i found:

I guess i not have my processor pentium 4 2.8GHZ support? (but the box tells me 1 GHZ is the minimum)

I have a pentium 4 with 1 GB ram :geek: MMX, SSE 1,2 - I have this...CPU ID tell me this...
sprindale-G
socket 478 mPGA

readeon x1650 - 512 MB - with WDDM support
my motherboard is soltek SL-865PE2 - L
but i can not find any good driver out there
SL-865PE2 - L
My bios has not the option for enable NX - XD for intel

and... I have no hardware DEP support

But i know there has 2be a way to go around this, right?

Is it worth it to intall windows 8 on my computer witout NX bit (see Terminal Install Mania )?

So i can run setup from the sources folder....??? and then I pass the NX bit??

I'm just a simple home user after all... and can work without the NX bit?
Or i guess this will be it ....I go back 2 win7 and stay there untill i have money to buy a new PC

Do i really need the Nx security or sould I try It?
From wiki

The NX bit, which stands for Never eXecute, is a technology used in CPUs to segregate areas of memory for use by either storage of processor instructions (or code) or for storage of data, a feature normally only found in Harvard architecture processors. However, the NX bit is being increasingly used in conventional von Neumann architecture processors, for security reasons.
An operating system with support for the NX bit may mark certain areas of memory as non-executable. The processor will then refuse to execute any code residing in these areas of memory. The general technique, known as executable space protection, is used to prevent certain types of malicious software from taking over computers by inserting their code into another program's data storage area and running their own code from within this section; this is known as a buffer overflow attack.
Intel markets the feature as the XD bit, for eXecute Disable. AMD uses the name Enhanced Virus Protection. The ARM architecture refers to the feature as XN for eXecute Never; it was introduced in ARM v6.[SUP][1][/SUP]

Hi. I'm a Magician and you won't be able to pull Rocky out of Bullwinkle's hat unless you either 1) get a new Pentium 4 for your Win 8 Pro or 2) download the trial of Windows 8 Consumer Preview build 8250 from a Torrent. Your new version of Win8 Pro sees your P4 CPU as totally incompatible. Funny that Microsoft didn't clue you into this reality before you went and bought it. You CAN use the version I described in #2 if you run the setup.exe that's in the Sources folder rather than the main setup.exe at the root of the OS. This trick bypasses Error Checking and you'll get on the board to see if you like Win8. If you're interested, reply and I'll check back in an hour or two and square you up. Until then, have a Goodday.

Interesting. My Pentium 4 is almost identical to yours except for the fact that its speed is 2.4 Ghz. When I ran Win8 Pro RTM on my
Dell OptiPlex GX260 from 2003, it froze at the first restart screen with that typical grayish-black screen. Just like your research confirms, if you don't have NX compatibility, you're rubbish outta luck with the RTM version you've got and, as far as I know, there is NO workaround unless you update that chip. However, the Consumer Preview build 8250 from earlier this year will pony up and run with some determination. I'm on it rite now and it's very different from Win7 . Save your time researching this one - I'm the book on this one. I literally succeeded in interfacing Win8 CP on a Dell from 2003. You can succeed also but you'll need me as a coach. It'll be fun. It was a handsome frog for awhile but I got past it with patience. So can you.

Wow!! One day later, no comments or opinions, and, somehow, I'm not surprised. Even the Moderators here are scratching their heads and wondering about this one. Most of them don't believe it can be done with the kind of equipment you've got. They're in disbelief. Just as well - I'm not Spoonfeeding anybody and that's for real !

Can you clarify for us EXACTLY which Win 8 version you have got running without NX?

This guy's running Win8 Pro RTM and, with what he's got, it will just barely get to the first restart screen. He hasn't learned yet that
the furthest he'll be able to get with his Pentium 4 is Win8 CP build 8250. Been there, done that.

Yeah...! I got the same NX bit issue when installing W8 on my PC.
But is it the Windows 8 Consumer Preview build 8250 realy worth installing (if you can find it)? Won't it crash straight after the next automatic update? Will the paid license key be valid? Or will it cease to operate when the CP term expires? ...
First when I searched into this I read that MS didn't do a version supporting non-NX-enabled processors because too few use such processors statisticaly. Yet, it's at least the 4th occurence I see on this forum already. How may PC meeting all requirements save the NX bit are still around and potential candidate for W8? Maybe millions!

Wow-w! Win8 CP build 8250 can be found on Torrent (file sharing) websites and, if you consider the use of a complimentary evaluation copy a case of Copyright Infringement, do what you think is best. I'm using CP on a Dell from 2003 and no, it won't crash with the next automatic update ( ?? ) but rather on Jan 16 2013. It's running on a Pentium 4 with NO NX compatibility and less than 1 GB of RAM . I like CP and it's rock solid - hard to believe that it's actually a Beta. Go with the flow, you'll probably find it very interesting.

I give up :(
I want a windows version that can be updated...
tomorrow I go back to windows 7 home premium - I just wanted a stable operating system and for me Windows 7 is that.

@ Microsoft:
there are A LOT of people that want to use their computer for about +/- 10 à 15 years, its crisis you know?!
For me I bought my computer in october 2003 - So my system is 9 years old...
this counts for just "simple" home-users (yes I use 3D software and Photoshop also - I'm a 2D artist in my free time)
(I know what you thinking, just buy a f***ing new computer.... and I really want a new computer, but I have other priorities)

Don't give up, Skippy - my Dell is older than your unit and it WILL update. However, only until Jan.16 and then the timebomb triggers. More than enuf time to see if you like its style. Don't spend your money, go and fetch on Win8 Consumer Preview. Whoever told you that it won't update is a chronic Alcoholic. Goodday.

Oh come on already. A $300 new PC will be three times as fast as a rubbish Pentium 4 that should be in the bin. I expect my office PC's to last no longer than 5yrs max.

Damn if you're not on top of your game with positive reinforcement. Let me guess - you don't fix stuff, you just throw it away. Yea, sure!

It's not a question of $300, it's that my 10 years old PC works just fine and I don't need anything faster. It's a 1.8Ghz. Why should I buy something I don't need? I prefer to wait another couple of years and then I'll fork not $300 but $600 and get something even better. But buying a new PC every 3 years? No thanks. A PC are long term investments. Laptops and cellphones less so.

My sediments exactly. I've got a 1964 Ford Falcon Futura Tudor Sedan go-fast car in the garage that makes a lot of peoples' chins hit the floor when they see it. I'm still using a VCR ! Imagine that! I just make rubbish work and it's as simple as that. Yours WILL work but not with the newly released Win8 Pro or Enterprise RTM. It will gank your hardware in no time flat. However, Win8 CP is a sneaker and will run happily on stuff made before the birth of Christ. My Dell OptiPlex GX260 SFF looks so good that it's my regular and dollars and cents don't factor in. I just want the software to boot the hardware and it does so. Hang in there - when it runs, it'll be worth the price of admission. Goodday.

Hi, Killswitch! I couldn't find the Win8 CP build 8250 (because apparently it has been cracked and they removed it from all reference on the internet) so I downloaded the build 8102 (the closest build to 8250 I culd find). Result...
Disastrous! It installed and started but didn't go further. It showed a giant clock and the date, on the Road66 background. Only thing I can get to is "switch user" from where I could turn off the PC.
Even more strange -and frighthening- it MATERIALY discontect the ethernet board from the computer as if you manualy removed it. Incredible! Even if I reboot from another OS on another physical drive, the ethernet board is still turned off! The only way to get it back is to unscrew the ethernet board, pull it off the slot, and plug it in again and rebooting.
Needless to say these unfinished builds refurbished by unofficial sources are more than dangerous.
