Yeah...! I got the same NX bit issue when installing W8 on my PC.
But is it the Windows 8 Consumer Preview build 8250 realy worth installing (if you can find it)? Won't it crash straight after the next automatic update? Will the paid license key be valid? Or will it cease to operate when the CP term expires? ...
First when I searched into this I read that MS didn't do a version supporting non-NX-enabled processors because too few use such processors statisticaly. Yet, it's at least the 4th occurence I see on this forum already. How may PC meeting all requirements save the NX bit are still around and potential candidate for W8? Maybe millions!

Wow-w! Win8 CP build 8250 can be found on Torrent (file sharing) websites and, if you consider the use of a complimentary evaluation copy a case of Copyright Infringement, do what you think is best. I'm using CP on a Dell from 2003 and no, it won't crash with the next automatic update ( ?? ) but rather on Jan 16 2013. It's running on a Pentium 4 with NO NX compatibility and less than 1 GB of RAM . I like CP and it's rock solid - hard to believe that it's actually a Beta. Go with the flow, you'll probably find it very interesting.

    I give up
I want a windows version that can be updated...
tomorrow I go back to windows 7 home premium - I just wanted a stable operating system and for me Windows 7 is that.

    @ Microsoft:
there are A LOT of people that want to use their computer for about +/- 10 15 years, its crisis you know?!
For me I bought my computer in october 2003 - So my system is 9 years old...
this counts for just "simple" home-users (yes I use 3D software and Photoshop also - I'm a 2D artist in my free time)
(I know what you thinking, just buy a f***ing new computer.... and I really want a new computer, but I have other priorities)

Don't give up, Skippy - my Dell is older than your unit and it WILL update. However, only until Jan.16 and then the timebomb triggers. More than enuf time to see if you like its style. Don't spend your money, go and fetch on Win8 Consumer Preview. Whoever told you that it won't update is a chronic Alcoholic. Goodday.

Oh come on already. A $300 new PC will be three times as fast as a rubbish Pentium 4 that should be in the bin. I expect my office PC's to last no longer than 5yrs max.

Damn if you're not on top of your game with positive reinforcement. Let me guess - you don't fix stuff, you just throw it away. Yea, sure!

It's not a question of $300, it's that my 10 years old PC works just fine and I don't need anything faster. It's a 1.8Ghz. Why should I buy something I don't need? I prefer to wait another couple of years and then I'll fork not $300 but $600 and get something even better. But buying a new PC every 3 years? No thanks. A PC are long term investments. Laptops and cellphones less so.

My sediments exactly. I've got a 1964 Ford Falcon Futura Tudor Sedan go-fast car in the garage that makes a lot of peoples' chins hit the floor when they see it. I'm still using a VCR ! Imagine that! I just make shit work and it's as simple as that. Yours WILL work but not with the newly released Win8 Pro or Enterprise RTM. It will gank your hardware in no time flat. However, Win8 CP is a sneaker and will run happily on stuff made before the birth of Christ. My Dell OptiPlex GX260 SFF looks so good that it's my regular and dollars and cents don't factor in. I just want the software to boot the hardware and it does so. Hang in there - when it runs, it'll be worth the price of admission. Goodday.

Hi, Killswitch! I couldn't find the Win8 CP build 8250 (because apparently it has been cracked and they removed it from all reference on the internet) so I downloaded the build 8102 (the closest build to 8250 I culd find). Result...
Disastrous! It installed and started but didn't go further. It showed a giant clock and the date, on the Road66 background. Only thing I can get to is "switch user" from where I could turn off the PC.
Even more strange -and frighthening- it MATERIALY discontect the ethernet board from the computer as if you manualy removed it. Incredible! Even if I reboot from another OS on another physical drive, the ethernet board is still turned off! The only way to get it back is to unscrew the ethernet board, pull it off the slot, and plug it in again and rebooting.
Needless to say these unfinished builds refurbished by unofficial sources are more than dangerous.

Hello everybody. I've just installed it through Boot Camp on my iMac. Apple Magic Trackpad in Drivers & Hardware
I've been using this with Windows 7...it's not fully functional by Mac standards but it's a dandy basic trackpad using the Apple's driver for Windows under Boot Camp. It strikes me that this would be a perfect tool for interfacing with the new Windows 8 UI on a desktop computer. Someone's going...
