Solved Upgrade from Win7 Home Premium SP1 to Win8 Pro? [DELL N5110]

Is it possible to upgrade the laptop DELL N5110 from Win7 Home Premium SP1 64Bit to Win8 Pro 64Bit?

Currently installed on Win7 Home Premium SP1 64Bit, is recommended to perform an upgrade or a clean installation?

If I decide to upgrade, will all the files and folders saves?

The system will work some without crashes? What more should upgrade or clean installation?

Do a clean install of Win8 Pro is automatic recognizes all the DELL N5110 drivers?

Yes, you can upgrade or clean install to 64-bit Windows 8 Pro if you like.

I personally like doing a clean install, but either will work. The upgrade will be cheaper than a system builders (full) copy though.

If you upgrade, you keep backup schedule, programs, Windows settings, user accounts and files. I would still recommend to backup anything that you do not want to lose just to be safe though.



Upgrading or a clean install may or may not install drivers for your devices. You can download Windows 8 drivers for your Dell N5110 at the Dell link bellow though.



There's no guarantee that your system will not crash or have any other issues. Just to many variables. If the installation goes well, then you should usually be good to go though.

Hello dear,

After the upgrade (not clean install), The update worked well.
Everything has been installed properly, but I have a problem metro (START).
When I open Microsoft Application Mail\Calender\Store, The application opens and closes immediately so you can not use it.

What should I do?

That's good news so far.

It's been reported that uninstalling any 3rd party antivirus and security programs you have installed, then reinstalling them has fixed this. Something about having them installed when doing the upgrade is causing issues.

Win8 include anti virus?

Nar, Avast was carried over from your Windows 7 installation while upgrading to Windows 8. If you wanted to continue using Avast, it should be fine to reinstall it if you like. It's only if kept during the upgrade is when it messes things up.

OK great, but i heard the windows 8 have a MSE anti virus? but i dont see it in background.

In Windows 8, MSE is Windows Defender. You would need to run the MSASCui.exe file to run Windows Defender.



I find using either tutorial below makes it much easier to use Windows Defender in Windows 8.
