How to install dual OS (win 7 and win 8) using the win 8 upgrade offer

Okay guys so some time back, 3 months back I bough a laptop with an OEM serial key for win 7 and I want to use the upgrade offer, the $14 one, here in India. But the trouble is that I have heard that once I get the iso file downloaded and try to install win 8 on another partition, my previous OEM serial key for win 7 will not work.
Please tell me is dual booting or installing dual OS possible for the windows upgrade offer or not. Has anyone been successful?

Hi there, guys, I want to ask one thing, will this method be successful if I use the upgrade offer of windows 7 to 8. I want dual boot by using the bootable USB created from the iso which I get by using the upgrade offer, which is available here in India for $14.

Yes that is what I plan on doing but I hope that my OEM licence will also keep working if I go for the update.

I agree with theog, you can't use your old OEM 7 in dual both anymore if you update from it, why you want to install Windows 8 and Windows 7 on the same PC ?

My reason for dual booting Win 7 and Win 8 is that I must have at least 50 utilities that I collected over the past couple of years. I have no idea if they will work with Win 8. I don't use most of them very often but I would hate to lose some by upgrading the Win 7 installation. So, I have a dual boot with Win 8 which I intend to use full time. When it looks like I will need one of those utilities on a regular basis, I'll install it in Win 8. If it doesn't work I can always boot Win 7, if it does work so much the better. Meanwhile all my data files are accessed and backed up from either OS.

Well my reason is somewhat similar to you. CallBear but I have heard that people can dual boot using this upgrade offer also.

Hello all. First time post. Thanks for having me. Hi, I had planned on upgrading one laptop to Win8 using the time-limited $40 offer, but now I'm instead selling that laptop. Are there any time limits to when the $40 upgrade has to be installed? For if not, I would buy it now anyway and install it a bit later on another machine. Thanks.
