Windows 8 - Blank Screen After Install! Help

Hi all, new to the forum and hope someone can help! I had a quick search for Windows 8 yesterday and was shocked to see it was only £24.99 for an upgrade so I downloaded it, it installed and all went well. Then after about 2 to 3 minutes of starting to use it and playing around with the new design my screen went blank, came back on for a second and then went blank. I done a hard reset but it would go blank after the window logo. So reset again and then it wouldn't boot at all, got the sad face :( and it spent an hour trying to fix it but to no job. I tried booting in safe mode but it wouldn't have it. I installed Windows 7 Home 64 bit again, what I had before, I tried another Windows 8 install but the same thing! I tried using my TV with HMDI cable as an external monitor and you can a black screen just with the cursor, can't right click or anything. Someone on another forum advise to press Windows Key + P as this worked for him as his graphics card thought he had two screens and was using the wrong one.

I've gone back to Windows 7 but would like to make use of the £24.99 spent on Windows 8! Any one has any idea's?

I'm using a HP Pavilion dv6, 4GB RAM, Intel Core i5 2.53ghz and a Radeon ATI graphics card, which supports Direct X 11.

Try redownloading from the email link.

Your Windows Store email said:
If you need to download Windows, write down your new product key and enter it here.

Than make the ISO, & burn to DVD or USB pendrive.

Upgraded from windows 7 , then same here managed to work out after ages how to reboot the machine then the blue windows logo......then black screen and a cursor. tried to restart in safe mode using shift+f8 ,nothing!

I then used the disk to boot and tried to repair and it said it couldnt. so tried to refresh, and was amazed to find out that it deleted all of the installed apps. WHAT HAPPENED TO REPAIRING THE WINDOWS INSTALLATION for pitys sake. I had no option but to re image back to windows seven not sure I will be reinstalling. Other thought who's bright idea was it to make safe mode primarily accesible only from within windows, crazy! safe mode is a necessity not a menu option!!!!!!

Folks this happend to me as well, Win 7 Ultimate worked fine, but Win 8 caused my on board video to go black, perhaps becuase it glitched the monitor. I turned my monitor off and on and it came back. If you hear the boot sound, its probably your video.

Sorry Steve Ballmer but this Win 8 upgrade is a piece of crap, how dare you treat us like idiots and try to control how we use a computer, this is day 5 and a complete reinstall of Win 7 was needed, and that was after I finally erased all traces of Win 8 and then recreating my RAID setup array. This Win 8 upgrade has denies access to BIOS and RAID con figs once it is installed. Stay away from thus upgrade if you valyeyour sanity. It should never have been let out with all the pieces missing that so many developers freely contributed towards. Piece if crap in my opinion that should be taken back and retooled.....

I logged a PayPal dispute against the £24.99 Windows 8 transaction and have now been refunded, only took about 2 weeks :)

This happens to me randomly like once every 10 boots or so. I found a curious 'fix' for this problem, at least it helps get into my desktop, maybe it will work for you:

When you see the black screen on boot, press this sequence of key combos:

1. Alt+F4
2. Enter
3. Windows+D

Voila! You're in your desktop.

I suspect the black screen is the metro UI not appearing properly or something like that, idk but this works for me every time.

Hope this helps!
