x32 or x64, which did I get?

Ok, I used the upgrade assistant and downloaded the ISO file and it has been successfully burned to a DVD. It dawned on me earlier today after I downloaded it that I was never asked if I wanted the 32 or 64 bit version. I was using a computer with Windows 7 x64 when I went through the process, so does this mean I got the x64 ISO file? Now that it's burned to the DVD I can browse it, but I don't see any definitive proof of either version. I need to know as it will determine which of my computers it will get installed on.

You can make sure by going to Control panel, system(snip).

I haven't installed windows 8 yet, I'm trying to find out what ISO File I got before installing.

Go into file explorer, go to computer and right click on it, it should give you all the info you need plus if it is activated.

There are no versions that I'm aware of, it chooses what you're computer is capable of running and install accordingly.

Bill, there is a x32 and x64 version of Windows 8. I understand if you let the upgrade assistant actually install windows 8 it works like you are saying. But, if you choose to download the ISO what are we getting? There is no mention of 32 or 64 bit when you go through the process. I guess what you are saying can be what happens when you download the ISO as well, in which case I would assume I got the x64 version because I have a very current system running Win 7 x64, and this is the system I used to go through the process of downloading the ISO.

You didn't download an ISO file, you downloaded a bunch of installation files, you then made an ISO file out of the files on your HDD and burned it onto a DVD. I'm not sure what you are trying to say, just let the installer do its job.

BUT if something goes wrong I didn't tell you to do anything, no look, its up to you, its your computer, just do what you feel comfortable with. I'm just telling you what my thoughts are on the matter.

Another thing you can do is partition the drive and do a clean install on the other partition as a test to see what it does. Again if something goes wrong I know nothing.

Cross architecture upgrades are not allowed for Windows 8 therefore if you ran the upgrade assistant from Win 7 x64 it will (or should) create a Win 8 x64 iso.

I ran the Update Assistant on a Win7 x64 system and installed Win8 Pro x64

That is a deal breaker for me.
I'm on win7 x86 home basic and i want the x64 win8 pro.
I believe in my case it'll download the x86 win8 even though my mobo and processor supports x64.
The only way to get x64 on my system is to the buy the slightly expensive dvd?

Also i'll be installing it on a new hdd..will be changing my mobo and processor too, does that make me ineligible for the upgrade? Do i need the system builder?
Can't i just get the upgrade dvd and do a clean install on a new hdd?

I get that, but i've not downloaded it yet.
Is there any solid way to know the version that'll be downloaded before u downloaded it?
I guessing it depends on my currently installed os version which x86.

Here is what my DVD shows..... its right in the middle of what theog posted for x32 and x64 (size wise), and doesn't have the ISO info.

theog's post shows _EN-GB_ in the file line... maybe the European file size is different than the American one???

Who knows.....LOL. I guess I'll find out once it's installed. I'll be making an image backup of my Win7 install just in case I need to go back.

I believe that the Upgrade Assistant downloads the same bit level as the machine that it is run from. I wasn't given a choice. (Fortunately, I had 64, and wanted 64.)

It's permissible to install X64 on a machine with a 32 bit OS using an upgrade license, although no upgrade-in-place is allowed. (Just like for Vista or Win7).

I don't want to begin a rant about the Upgrade Assistant, but I would have much preferred the old Windows 7 MS Store approach, where you could choose to download an .iso directly, at the bit level of your choice. I hope that they go back to that, after a month or three.
