Installing Windows 8Pro Without a Win7 Disc ?

I have a brand new MacBook Pro upon which I would like to install my brand new Windows 8Pro (upgrade version). I'm using Parallels VM software and I tried it already and it worked but black-screened because I hadn't previously installed an older version of windows.

Now I have an older version of windows (Win7 ultimate currently running on my old MacBook Pro using BootCamp) and I have the Win7 install key (thanks to KeyThing) ...... but I don't currently have the actual disc. It's in a shipping container somewhere in Australian customs.

Can I install my copy of Win8 without installing any previous versions ?

Yes you should be able to, if you have a Windows live account use that as well, it worked for me without going over the top of a previous version other than the release preview, which I formatted. Hopefully it will work for you, just use the key that comes with Windows 8.

Since you have your key you can download an ISO of the version that matches your key. Then install it and then you can upgrade.

These are MS retail versions and not specific to Dell. Dell is just making the links available.

What do you mean by using my Windows Live account ? IS there a way to use it akin to my Apple ID so that MS know I have Win7 already, so they let the Win8 install go ahead ?

He installed over the Release Preview and used the Live ID where his settings are stored. You need to have a previous version of XP, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8 RP installed for the upgrade disk to work.

Hmm. Am attempting something else - Parallels has a 'PC migrate' feature which may be able to move my Win7 install over to the VM on my new MBP over which I can then install Win8......
