Can i upgrade from windows 7?

hi all,

i was just wondering. I had windows 7 installed by a friend of mine and he, unbeknown to me, installed an illegitimate copy of windows 7 ultimate. I know this is wrong so i plan to upgrade to windows 8. If i buy a key and try to upgrade will i have any problems because it is not a legitimate copy?

You will need a full copy of windows8.

Legally you need a full copy of Windows 8 to be legit. Honestly, MS will never come after you if you buy the $39 upgrade. The upgrade version should work fine, but no guarantees as you are running a hacked version of Windows which has had it's activation system bypassed to make it work. I doubt MS tested in these scenarios

i dont know. If it does not work will i be lumbered with a useless activation code?
