What exactly does "keep nothing" entail? [Windows 8 Upgrade]

Hello everyone. Tomorrow, I intend on purchasing the $40 Win8 upgrade for my Win7 machine. I like my installs as clean as possible, so can someone tell me if the "keep nothing" option formats the drive and installs Win8? If not, is there any way to do a clean install with the $40 upgrade? Thanks!

Keep nothing keeps your files, but they are moved to the Windows.old folder in C: drive. You will be able to retrieve them after the upgrade. Your programs will be gone though
