Is it possibl to use the Windows 8 Pro product key that you buy at the store (or via download) to install Windows 8 using the MSDN ISO onto a clean hard disk?

I'm assuming the person is talking about buying a $39 upgrade key. So, if the OP considers a "Clean install" to be an install where you take a running Windows 7 and upgrade...but choose to do a clean load without brining forward apps or data...then yes...this would work with an MSDN copy.

However, if you mean can you take the WIndows 8 upgrade key, and simply use an MSDN DVD to install onto a blank hard drive with no previous OS, then I don't think this key will work in this scenario.

I have to ask the obvious, if you have MSDN...why not just use your MSDN key? I'll assume the answer is because you obtained your MSDN copy through non-legit channels and simply don't have an MSDN key.

I got it from here (file "Windows_8_Pro_EN-US_x64.ISO"). And no, I don't have a MSDN, MSDNAA or TeechNet membership.

And yes, the MD5 does match that of the official ISO.

The legality really onto comes into play on obtaining the license itself. There is nothing "technically" illegal with using the ISO itself. As long as you obtain a key legally, from a legal standpoint I think it's just fine.
