Win8 & Microsoft Office Re-Install

When I install Windows8 over my current Windows7 system I want to do a complete wipe of my PC and start from scratch. I currently have Microsoft Office installed, and activated, on my Windows7 based PC so when I have finished installing Windows8 will I be able to re-install my Microsoft Office package even though I activated it under Windows7?

Or do I need to install Windows8 over Windows7 and make sure I keep the Microsoft Office application?

I would prefer to wipe out my current Windows7 PC setup but I don't want to lose my Microsoft Office package either.

Please advise and many thanks for your help!

I'm not sure about this one. Someone else will be able to answer this one. I think, you should be able to reinstall it and re-activate it.

I don't think this is possible.

Again, I don't think this can be done.

Hi there

If it's on the same machine it will activate -- any probs just activate by phone --tell MS you've just upgraded to W8 --they will be pleased in any case.

I had no probs going from XP==>W7==>W8 with office --even though on W8 I installed the x-64 version. Activation was done automatically.

cheers

You can uninstall office and any other software that needs to be saved and then do your clean install of 8 and reinstall said software. All ways works for me.

Hi there

be careful when you give this type of advice especially when it's 100% incorrect.

I see you are from India so don't take my remarks the wrong way -- love Indian food ad Cricket --even though we don't play it where I'm from -- but if you offer obviously incorrect advice - be aware that the whole "Indian Offshoring project" is finally under severe attack in Europe and any excuse to bring developments back home will be ruthlessly pursued as people have finally realized that this whole off shoring idea doesn't actually bring the savings it was supposed to do.

Yes you can!!!
Just back up activation using Advanced Token Manger by Josh, and you will be good.

Hi there
this type of application may not be strictly legal -- it appears not to violate your actual license data but I'm still sure that technically speaking this isn't 100% legal even though the applicationit actually isn't attempting to make "Pirate" or Unlicensed copies of Ms Software.

I'd still activate via the "Usual channels". You won't have a problem re-activating Ms office by phone if requiired when upgrading (some might even say "Downgrading") W7 to W8.

If Ms doesn't have issues activating like this then fine but I really think this type of application runs very near to the mark.!!

Hi there Jimbo :)
Look mate, I'm not taking any of your remarks personally. I however would like to know how that is 100% incorrect, might be helpful if you explain. There is no end of learning and I would like to be corrected if I was wrong. In my first answer I even stated that I'm not sure about it and some other might help him.

Hi there

I'm trying to save the OP money - most of us don't want to buy another copy of the product if we don't need to.

you quite clearly said the OP couldn't re-activate Office after a windows 8 upgrade.

That's the issue that is incorrect. You most certainly CAN re-activate office after upgrading your OS - so long as it's being activated on the same machine that it was originally activated on.

I have done this as I said on XP==>W7===>W8 - even changing the x-86 version of office to the 64 bit one (you get both on the same DVD for office 2010 retail / use at home).

It doesn't help the OP when somebody says something can't be done when IT CLEARLY CAN and HAS BEEN done.

The trouble these days with cheap fast internet access a lot of people readily give out opinions as facts rather than performing SPECIFIC TESTS to ensure that what they are putting out on the net is correct.

My only question here is have you actually TRIED to update Ms office on a W7==>W8 upgrade. It works fine I assure you.

(My copy of W8 is 100% legit from TechNet - identical to the W8 which is to be released later this month).

Unless you are a member of TechNet / MSDN or downloaded the free W8 enterprise TRIAL version you can't possibly have tested this on a version that the OP wants to use -- you can't get at the moment outside TechNet / MSDN W8 pro. so I'd be interested what version of W8 you tried this on. Remember the Consumer preview versions don't count - nor do the various "leaked" RTM versions either.

Upgrading won't delete Ms Office. nor will it even ASK for activation either unless the hardware has been significantly changed.

The only part where more info is required is if you want to upgrade from W7 (32 bit) to W8 64 bit -- then a new install will be required as upgrade won't work directly.

If the OP doesn't have his original office install media then any full W8 install will wipe office and he will lose it.

Cheers

WHAT???? :what:Have I said that??
Read this:

Open your eyes and read this.

mrstpehen clearly states that he would prefer to wipe out his current Windows7 PC setup (=do a clean install not upgrade) and at the same time wouldn't want to lose Microsoft Office. I said that, in my knowledge that wasn't possible. I didn't say he couldn't re-activate it. Is that 100% incorrect??? You are talking about upgrade Jimbo. I would suggest you better read the posts more carefully before saying somebody is 100% incorrect.
