So I had 302.82 nvidia drivers installed for my gf 460 (192 bit version) and everything was fine except for ambient occlusion not working when forced in nvidia panel. So since new 306.23 driver showed up I decided to risk it and give it a go. Of course as usual it backfired. After getting through installers options it started to install, however after few seconds I got installer error and install failed nest to graphic driver.
So I decided to uninstall old driver. Another bad call. Since then I get the same install failed after several seconds of installation on every nvidia driver out there out of several versions available for w8.
Now I noticed that my video card is flagged as unknown device in other devices menu. If I uninstall it and scan for changes it gets changed to video controller in the same menu. But drivers still won't install and after fail it gets flagged back as unknown device. I noticed I constantly have driver update waiting in win update but it fails to install.
So yeah I contacted Nv support, put feedback and all that. Nothing much helps for now. Tried safe boots, disabling driver signature, disabling antivirus, removing card from slot etc. Nothing works.
I am starting to suspect, that default driver might have been updated, since it fails to install, card is inproperly marked as unknown device and for whatever reason Nv drivers do not like that.
