    Forcing driver installation

Hello, I tried to start Minecraft (a game that uses advanced openGL) and it doesn't work. So I tried everything. I updated my drivers, downloaded again etc etc. So I decided to try installing Windows 7 drivers. Well, CCC says it doesn't meet requirement and just exits. Is there any way to force the installation or somebody have a clue of how to fix this?

First, I will demonstrate my noob level by asking, what is CCC?

Second, by saying "Windows 7 drivers," do you mean that you installed the drivers for Windows 7 normally, or that you installed the Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode, or something else entirely? Until you tell me exactly what you did, I can't help you.

Finally, if you just want to play Minecraft, why not dual-boot Ubuntu and Windows 7? Ubuntu is a free, open-source Linux distro that is officially supported for Minecraft. With the addition of the also-free Wyne program, Ubuntu can run some .exe files, though NOT ALL.

    1. Uhh, I think it's some kind of software provided by AMD
    2. Just "normal" mode
    3. I do have Ubuntu on my system but FPS sucks.

Can you provide your graphics card model? Radeon is not enough. If you cannot find your model can you specify your exact computer model? You can run the ati installer by right clicking the setup.exe and choosing properties. Then click the Compatibility tab and then press the button which says "Change settings for all users". Check the box which says "Run this program in comparability mode for:". Then click the dropdown box and choose "Windows 7"

If that doesn't work run the installer and let it fail. Then right click "My computer" and choose "Manage". Click Device manager in the side bar and expand "Display adapters". Right click your card and choose Update driver software. Click browse my computer and then "let me pick from a list....". Click "Have Disk" and browse to (I don't have an ati card, but ill do my best to remember) C:\Ati\...Version...\Driver\Display\something.inf.

As for Ubuntu, you have to install the proprietary drivers. The open source driver that come with Ubuntu at default do not have good hardware acceleration.

CCC stands for Catalyst Control Center, which is the control panel for ati cards.

It doesn't matter too too too much since I just gave up but radeon was smart enough to defeat compatibility mode and gave me an error.

Oh so I should've downloaded the zip file version made for geeks... I see.
I'll be able to do that when I return to Windows 8.
