Nah - you should see PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68E4&SUBSYS_xxxxxxxx&REV_yy You might also see CC_zzzzzz

Need to know what the xxxxxxxx is, and the yy and zzzzzz if you have it.

Okay, so your SUBSYS is not supported by SP59147 (see my post before on which support is included).

Interestingly, AMD's Catalyst 12.10 and 12.11 Beta8 doesn't specify SUBSYS for Radeon HD 6300M Series cards (it does for some others). So in theory you should be able to enable it by installing an AMD-signed Intel driver (like the one HP provides) and updating the AMD driver to 12.10 or 12.11 Beta8 (recommended) before rebooting.

In practice, I know that from WDDM drivers you can install the AMD Beta (no reboot), then use Have Disk/Choose to change the Intel driver to an AMD-signed version. When rebooted, this should give you working Switchable Graphics. I haven't done this with HP drivers, but it works with Leshcat + AMD Beta just fine. For that matter, Leshcat drivers might be your best option right now (if you're okay with Test Mode).

Otherwise, wait to see what is released with the coming HP drivers...

My apologies for not getting this working.

Well, you gave it your best shot. Wish we'd figured out it wouldn't work before, but hopefully it will help someone else. I've thought about trying the Leshcat drivers, but I still have the problem of ridding my system of all those pesky AMD/ATI files. HP says they're not going to support my model, among others, so I don't expect help there. I've got to make a decision soon because I just got a box of reel to reel tapes I have to restore and transfer to the digital realm. Now is not the time to buy a new laptop, I don't think.
Thanks for all your time. If I could, I'd take you out for lunch.
Let me know if you run across anything...I'll may try Leshcat tomorrow and then chuck it. Too much aggravation. I learned a lot from you...thank you greatly, Alphastar!

    Okay,
I decided to try to install the HP WIN 7 drivers in WIN 7 compatibility mode, and - They work! I now have switchable graphics. Haven't let it go into sleep mode or hibernate yet, but power saving works. Now if there is no automatic update, this might be a temporary solution . I was going to try Leshcat's drivers, but I saw some reports of people still having the same issue with black screen upon sleep so I'll wait until those get ironed out. I didn't even run Driver Fusion.
    Here are the instructions:

Re: Drivers for AMD Radeon HD 5650 switchable graphics by hp... - HP Support Forum

Couldn't have been easier. We'll see - let me wait til it sleeps...
    Thanks!!

    Edit:
Slept & woke up with no problems so far. Now if I can figure out why pasting text into windows live mail takes so long...

I just saw that AMD released a windows 8 driver for the 6370 yesterday! HP said they wouldn't because AMD wasn't going to...Hmmm
Must be a way to make it work.

    A side question:

Can anybody point me to a blog about what to do with the extra partitions on a HP laptop after upgrading to W8?

I have a HP laptop, and as with most I assume ALL have these 4 partitions, system/C/D/E the D is the recovery partition, which will be useless once W7 is over written, The E is some Tools thing, which again I don't know if it will be of any use on W8. The "system" one... a small 200mg thing I assume is still used I don't know, weather this is something that W7 makes at boot or if its a BIOS thing.

So I'm looking for some info/guidance from anybody that has already upgraded their HP laptop to W8 and what they found happened to the partitions, or what they found they still kept.

I have a C, D and F partition, same as it was with W7. E is my BDRom drive. So it used the same partitions. I'll take a look at my clone in the morning and see what the used space is....

    BTW
My fan gets pretty loud after this last driver install. Still working, but I've heard of general heat issues with this motherboard.

thats weird, F is my BD dvd writer E is some TOOLS thing.

I thought that when you upgrade the OS that one or more of these are deleted, but maybe not, thats what I need to find out, cause if not, than they may as well be removed since at least the D won't be of any use as it the W7 recovery partition. I'm not sure about the TOOLS one, or the small system one.

I think the HP guy said they can be removed, but I'd rather hear what somebody that already upgraded did or found out.

I'm just waiting now for HP to post that sp59850 driver, so I can do the upgrade thing with my W8 Pro disk.

i would think D becomes the W8 recovery partition. I wouldn't worry about deleting them...
