Win 8 AMD Switchable Graphics FAQ

I tried to do the Have Disk, but it said I already have the right driver and installed the old ones. When you say 'run SP59147, do you mean the setup file in the folder after I extracted?

Yep, that or the original SP59147.exe (which will extract to C:\SWSetup\SP59147, then run Setup.exe).

    F$&@!
I uninstalled the Adapters from Device Manager first ( because I thought I had to) and now I have black screen!
    Idiot!
Now I have to try to get back in to safe mode. This is water torture!

    edit:
booted back up, with low res screen...only one driver...now it loaded WDDM Drivers. Started setup, went black but now back ...installing...

It seems to be the same driver version 9.2.0.0 Date 9/27/2012

    Any way to tell?

    Restarting...

Black screen. Heard Windows start, can't see a thing.

Well, It went to repair and the restore with shift f8. I'm going to be back running the Intel Adapter I suppose.
Device Manager showed the Standard VGA Adapter for a second or so, then loaded the other drivers. Can't seem to get it cleaned out. I might try it again, Alphastar. You've gone way beyond in your help and I'm just as disappointed for you as I am for myself. I don't know what AMD folders to delete, or if I'd even have time to do it.
Then again, this new driver might have loaded and on restart just did the same thing the other drivers were doing. I'm still open to ideas. And still waiting for restore to finish - taking a long time - over 1/2 hour. I may not be back to Intel after all. Will it ever end??

Well, that isn't the driver from SP59147...that ReadMe clearly states that the version in the SoftPaq is 9.0.0.0.

The only other suggestion I have is to upgrade to AMD Catalayst 12.11 Beta8 with the AMD GPU disabled (to overwrite any other versions), then uninstall it using the new AMD 12.11 Catalyst Installation Manager (CIM).

After that, you can try Driver Fusion again from Safe Mode. The new version (1.3.0.0) should remove Beta8 cleanly once you click No to the Premium prompt.

The other method would be to manually note which files are being deleted and attempt removal by hand. Or backup and attempt a clean Windows 8 install before SP59147.

That driver version was before I restarted....the new one wouldn't have shown up yet, would it?

That Beta 8 version is from the AMD site, right?
So you're saying load Beta 8 and then uninstall it, all with the AMD GPU disabled? Then run the newest version of Driver Fusion from safe mode, and make sure the GPU's are uninstalled, if needed, also from safe mode. Would I then stay in safe mode and run SP59147/ Oh, wait, I think Driver Fusion would want to reboot to finish it's work.

I don't think I'll be doing a clean install of Win 8 - I'd restore my drive from my external Win 7 clone first - unless there's a clear answer to this GPU Driver issue. And I don't see taking the time to delete the files by hand unless I'm sure this driver will work. I'm a bit over my head here - again, wasn't I looking at the old driver version because I hadn't restarted?

    Edit:
After reading the manual uninstall directions, I might do it if I knew the Driver would work...at least it shows where to look after running Drive Fusion.

Up to the point where you see WDDM drivers, you're good.

What you need to ensure is that the trace files from the old AMD driver is gone before installing again. Only Driver Fusion requires Safe Mode to remove files in use by the AMD software. You will not be able to install the driver in Safe Mode.

Of course, it is entirely possible that SP59147 doesn't work with your card for some reason...

Can you verify (post) your Hardware ID SUBSYS value?
