Win 8 AMD Switchable Graphics FAQ

There are tons of AMD folders - I wouldn't know which ones to delete.
I can't believe how much time you're putting in to helping me. Do you have a life? : )

    Gotcha, I'll try that...

No probs, you're pretty close to a solution. I've updated the previous post.

You probably don't need to worry about moving/renaming folders (this would work too) if you follow step-by-step the previous post.

WinRAR or UniExtract or 7-Zip...WinZip will expect a zip file. UniExtract recommended...

you see now why the model has to match the driver download page, even though we have a dv7t-6c00, mine with the full name is the
HP Pavilion dv7t-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC

An I7 2670 cpu with the Radeon 7690m xt gpu and the Intel 3000 apu

This is why at times people recomending drivers/updates only looking at a short title end up getting the wrong stuff and making things worse. Even with the hardware ID's matching, if a different model you may still run into odd problems. Only way I would even attempt at mix and match fixes or 3rd party drivers is if my model was just not supported for W8 at all and I wanted to install W8 anyway.

Had I been told by HP yesterday that my model was not going to be supported, I'd just sell my W8 CD for the $15 bucks I paid for it and leave W7 alone, than save a few bucks till later next year and just buy a new laptop on sale or off an auction site with a gforce and W8 installed . But since I was told there was a driver comming in a "few" days, I will deal with this thing when I see it and than mae up my mind if I want to keep Win 8 or just stay with W7. All I know is I've never had so much craziness with computers since I got this thing in July.

Trust me HOODY, it will work.

The issues right now are related to the previous incorrect driver installed on the system, and getting it removed. Once that's done, it is just a matter of running SP59147.

The compatibility checks I used are the same ones that every manufacturer (including the Microsoft Windows 8 Installation Wizard) uses to determine compatibility to run their O/S. It is the same method used by Device Manager to find drivers using Windows Update, as well as the same process used by other O/Ses.

I should also add that unlike the dv7-6c00, our computers are no longer supported by HP for Windows 8, so we need to find our own solution for Switchable Graphics. (I asked wes, no reply so far). Also, I am currently on SP59147, so I know it works.

Done - when you say run SP59147, do you mean the setup file? If I were to use the Have Disk method, where would I point it to?
God, I feel like I'm getting more dense as the day goes on.

    Perfect, almost there.

Click this link to follow the Have Disk/Choose method. It explains what path you need to point to inside the extracted SP59147 folder (of course, you've already completed the extraction part).

BTW, it shouldn't matter which card you select to update the driver - I think they will both switch to SP59147.

And yes, you can run either SP59147.exe or the \SP59147\Setup.exe file.

    Confused again...
those instructions say to use the Intel Graphics to install the driver. I've used Driver Fusion, then uninstalled the adapters from Device Manager, and rebooted. I've got the wddmv1.2.0 AMD driver and the Intel.

    Excellent...it worked!

No Intel or AMD driver loaded except the Windows Update (Microsoft) WDDM 1.1/1.2 default ones. This is what would have happened with a normal Windows 8 clean install and reboot.

    Now, run SP59147.
