You could also check the seating and connections of your GPU.

It crashed earlier today twice, when I started Diablo 3 game. 1st time surprised me, 2nd time I was sort of expecting.

I just swapped out my DVI cable for original VGA cable with DVI adapter, and both got video signal and was able to start up and play Diablo 3 a bit.

Maybe issue was faulty DVI cable?

    edit: nvmnd, just crashed again.

follow up to this - after multiple more crashes, and disconnecting and re-connecting stuff prior to restarting, my PC quit working. It crashed and I was unable to get it running again. I took it to the same shop, they connected it and turned it on, and it booted as if nothing had ever been wrong with it.The current theory is that one of my peripheral devices it the cause of my problems. The tech suggested my external HDD on basis he had seen them cause problems like this before. I am thinking it may be my speaker system, which is about a decade old, because all my recent crashes happen while gaming.I also have a PS/2 keyboard, trackball mouse, cable modem and my monitor (connected to my GPU). Hopefully it's not my monitor, since I don't have a spare.I am leaving my PC at the shop overnight so the tech can run diagnostics on it, I don't think he is going to charge me for it. I might know more tomorrow about whatever-the-hell is wrong with my system.

I got my computer case back from the tech shop. I have followed the tech's advice and didn't re-connect my external HDD - it is sitting in a closet right now.

I loaded up and played Diablo3 for a few seconds, without issue. That is as adventurous as I am feeling right now, if the problem really isn't fixed I can find out some other time. Will mark this thread as solved in hopes that it truly is.

Time to do the detective work, huh? Hmmmm.... which device is it causing problems???? Seriously, it's go to know at least it's not the PC, and as you said earlier , hopefully not your monitor.

Problem was not solved. It died earlier today and nothing I have attempted can get it to start up - case fans don't spin and there is no output to the monitor, but DVD writer spins up and HDD activity light comes on. I am currently using my old PC (was WinXP, now Linux) with all the same peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.).

When I started this thread, I strongly suspected my GPU was the culprit, which is why I started the thread in the Graphic Cards sub-forum.My PC will not start up even with the GPU removed and the monitor connected to the motherboard, so I have no idea what the problem could be. Mods should feel free to move this topic to whatever sub-forum is appropriate.
