    The monitor display irks me

Everything is so very small. Maybe I'm just not used to it? I don't know. This laptop is fairly new. My dad gave it to me as an enrollment gift. (If it means anything, I just enrolled in college with a course of Information Technology major in Digital Arts. Dad bought the new laptop because "newer and better laptops will help you" he said.)

Anyway, he bought me a Toshiba Satellite E45 -B4200 Intel Core i5; already updated to Windows 8.1, 64-bit. Before, I used Acer Aspire 4741 Intel Core i3 Windows 7 so you can imagine me bawling my eyes out when everything was so squinty and small. Add to the fact that the text was NOT sharp and blurry. It's been hell surfing through the net for answers. Guys, help me.

I've been holding back from using profanities in this post because I realize that wouldn't help at all.

This is what I'm looking at right now. The layout of the forum, the text, Google Chrome itself, is so small.

And this is what it looks like on my Acer laptop. The forum layout actually stretches to the sides, Google Chrome tabs and icons aren't too small. I understand there's a major screen resolution difference but the icons, windows, and text don't have to be small or blurry. I'd expect it to be more high definition and bigger than what it looks like now.

The new laptop screen likely has a much higher screen resolution. There is a wide forum skin you can use. If you go to control panel > display you should see a slider to make things bigger. there is also an option at the bottom to make text bigger.

I did that but then everything (every window and text) was squished into this little box named the monitor And the text, though bigger, was still blurry.

You can also keep Ctrl button pressed down and use scroll wheel on mouse or scroll track on laptop's pad to make things bigger or smaller on the screen.

Have you tried going to Control Panel>Display and changing the settings? Using the slider changes the size of All things and at the bottom you can fine tune your text size settings for different things such as- title bars, tool tips menus etc. and if like me set them to bold. After setting the sizes, you will need to go through clear type again.

Right click on the Desktop > Personalise > Display (or thru the Control Panel)
    Change size of all items:
Change from 100% to some higher value like 125% or whatever settings you have available in there, or choose Custom sizing options.

Below that you can change some elements of Windows to suit.

Once done with basic sizing go to the "adjust ClearType text" on the left which will improve readability of text.

You may have to go back to this depending on what Applications you use.

All this is basically caused by having a higher resolution screen of a small size.
