recommended resolution no longer fits border of monitor

Hi, recently i played a steam game and once i logged off of it i noticed that the desktop icons were no longer within the borders of the monitor, same with the start bar. my monitor is a Flatron w1942TQ and it recommends that my resolution should be 1400x900, yet the screen only seems to fit at 1280x1024. please can someone give me some advice on how to deal with this problem, the problem isnt huge but the different resolution makes me uncomfortable and ive been finding it hard to work on the computer.
    thanks for reading.

haha, found the solution on my own
once you have it a t the resolution you want it at there should be a small button on the monitor itself, AUTO/SET, that readjusts the borders to fit.
