Display driver stopped responding and has recovered 8.1

I am using the latest version of Windows 8.1 on my desktop computer. This morning I suddenly got this popup when i turned off my lcd:

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error:



I've installed driver 10.18.10.4061 for my intel HD 4000 , a while ago from Intel website ...

What does this error signify ? Do I need to worry about my video card ?

Please help .

The recommended driver comes from the manufacturer's website. In your case, Dell. The ones from intel are only if you are experiencing problems or cannot get the correct version from the manufacturer. Try 'reverting' back to the Dell listed 'newest' driver and see if it helps. The best way would be to download it, uninstall your current one, restart, and then install the downloaded one fresh.

But Dell has the drivers which are dated 18th Oct 2013 for my Intel HD 4000 . So i thought i'd update to the latest version ..

Should i re install those 1 year old drivers ? :O

If it still applies to your system (windows 8.1 x 64bit), and if it's stable, sure. I gather it is an older laptop. If the website only lists 8 drivers, and not 8.1, then use the same method of download, remove, install as I described earlier to install the intel driver instead.

I'm confused. Your sys specs list an i7 processor, and you said you have HD 4000. 2 laptops, perhaps? This is the latest from Intel, dated Jan 8, 15 for the 4000: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24593

Yes my system has an i7 3630 processor with HD 4000 graphics ... and yes the 8.1 drivers on Dell are listed but they list the Intel graphics driver of Date 2013 ...

And yes , that latest build from Intel is what i downloaded and installed which gave that error ..

Just want to overstate a bit that the manufacturer drivers may be tailored to your system. They are older in date, but it isn't necessarily a bad thing. Eventually, drivers are just no longer released anymore for older devices, some companies end it sooner than others. As you find, the newer version from Intel has given you trouble.

And sorry about the confusion about the HD4000 Graphics. I've gotten so used to buying Graphics cards that I don't even pay attention to the built-in graphics, and I'm tired at the moment. I myself have 3rd Gen, and you've got 4th

If you still prefer the newer drivers, you might try removing your driver manually, restarting, and installing the latest Intel driver (I assumed you had just installed it over a previous install before). This is an attempt to get it to work. If it doesn't work still, despite this extra effort, use the one dated just before this one - think it was dated December if memory serves.
