New Computer (Win 8.1) Won't Detect External Monitor

    Hello,
I just bought an HP Envy 23" All-In-One desktop a few months ago and am just now attempting to pair it with an external monitor (TV) via the HDMI port. The computer doesn't even detect that it's been hooked up to anything and the TV still says "no signal". I tried the same HDMI cable and TV with my laptop and it works fine, so it must be the computer. Any suggestions? Is it a driver problem? I don't know much tech-wise, but am willing to try if anyone has any ideas on how I can fix this.

The operating system is Windows 8.1 and the monitor is an AOC Envision 22" TV, model number L22H998. I visited the AOC website in search of a driver and didn't see the model listed. Is there perhaps an equivalent I could use? I don't know much about drivers.

Thanks and let me know if any more info is required for an accurate diagnosis.

Hi Dejalive, welcome to the Eight Forums.

    Couple of questions:
    1. Is the TV signal input set to correct HDMI port (for instance if the cable is in HDMI2 in TV, the TV signal input must be set to HDMI2)?
    2. Does the Windows Screen Resolution Tool show the TV when HDMI cable is connected both to PC and TV?
    3. If Screen Resolution does not show the TV by default, does clicking the Detect button help?

And since HDMI is a graphics driver function do you have latest drivers? Also where are you getting HDMI from, the motherboard or the graphics card?

I've navigated to the Properties of the graphics card (via the advanced section of the screen resolution options), automatically searched for updates, and it says I'm up to date. As for the second half of your question, I'm afraid you've lost me. How can I determine that?

The graphics card is Intel HD Graphics 4600. Do I need to uninstall the driver and then re-install it from the Intel website? If that may be helpful, could anyone talk me through it?

A good point which I overlooked assuming that as OP mentioned it being a new computer, it came with Windows preinstalled with all necessary drivers.

Check that you have the correct video drivers.

How can I do that? Here's what I've checked so far:

There are new drivers dated the 12th. Here is page with link: Latest Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 8

You just download and install assuming that computer accepts generic drivers.

Is it a problem that I have a 4th gen processor with Intel HD Graphics 4600? Because the description for this download says:

    Supports Intel(R) HD graphics on:

    • 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 2500
    • 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 4000
    • Intel® HD Graphics for Intel® Atom™ Processor Z3700 Series

Also, should I uninstall my driver first?
