Please help ATI Radeon Mobility x2300 driver problems

I recently upgraded from windows 7 32 bit to Windows 8 64 bit , before that , nothing happened to the display adapter , it showed ATI Mobility Radeon x2300 . But when i upgraded to windows 8 this afternoon , it changed into Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Please help , I have been searching for drivers for windows 8 but i tried to install them and they said that this driver selected does not suit with the windows version installed or something like that. Please help . I need the driver .

Windows 8 is driver aware ... let Windows Update provide the driver to your machine.

Change Device Installation Settings to automatically download driver software if it is not already set to automatic.
See Windows help: Download and install drivers. Search help for Download and install drivers and select the same search results to learn how to work with drivers.

Windows Update checks for updated drivers and software for your devices and install them automatically. Keeping Windows Update on a good way to make sure your devices continues to work properly and you get the best experience with them.
Note: PCs running Windows RT 8.1 always automatically download and install drivers, apps, and info for your devices.

To check that automatic updating is on
    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

    2. Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Windows Update.

    3. Tap or click Choose how updates get installed.

    4. Under Important updates, choose Install updates automatically (recommended).

You might have to manually check what Windows Update (WU) offers in the Optional category of updates.

I would respectfully disagree with the idea of accepting ANY driver updates from Windows Update. I've seen far too many people who've had all sorts of issues after doing that to be able to recommend it in good conscience. Maybe someone can confirm/deny this, but last I knew MS was still stripping out OpenGL support from video drivers distributed via Windows Update. Or rather probably requiring AMD/nVidia remove OpenGL support to get the driver distributed via Windows Update.

Go to AMD's website and grab a copy of their legacy drivers, which should support your video card and hopefully been updated to work with Windows 8. Drivers direct from the specific hardware manufacturer is the best/safest route to take IMO.

I've already downloaded the legacy drivers and when i restarted my laptop , there was no change to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter so I went ahead to try the Have Disk and located to where my driver files were located and I tried to install it but it said the driver selected does not support the current version of windows so I had no idea what to do next

Please fill in your System specs so members can better assist you
Make and specific model of your PC are most important (i.e. I have an HP dv6 laptop, but there are quite a few dv6 models ... so what I really have is a Laptop: HP Pavilion dv6-6c10us - sometimes mfrs use the same name for laptop and desktop machines - be specific to receive the best help)
See: System Spec - Fill In Your EightForums System Spec

But .... why not let Windows Update do it's job?
I was a naysayer once too, but not anymore!

Hi, go to the https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx (the site will prompt you to install an add-on - install it). Then search for "radeon 2100" - I know you search driver for Mobility Radeon X2300. Download the driver for Windows 7. Install via Device manager.

I'd go back to popeye's post and make sure you're downloading the proper drivers. Yours is part of the HD2xxx series which is still supported according to AMD, though it wouldn't surprise me if some of the early models were dropped already. If you're sure what you downloaded and installed (you did install, right? Have to ask, since there's a reason asking if something is turned on is still among the first questions asked) is the same as what popeye linked to, you've probably got the best you're going to get as far as the GPU goes on hardware from circa 2007.

Although the Mobility Radeon X2300 is part of the HD2000 series its driver support dropped long time ago - it is a DirecX9 graphic card and the Radeon X2400 supports DirectX10. The last driver that supports Radeon X2300 is the legacy Catalyst 10.2 - but it is for desktop cards thus it should be modded to work.
