integrated graphics, is there a way to increase performnce

I have just put an additional 8gb of ram into my machine and am now sitting at 16gb ram but i did not notice any difference on my graphics during games. i have the AMD a6-5200 APU processor which has the integrated radeon hd 8400 graphics.

I'm wondering if there are any settings adjustments i can do to make the graphics card run faster. I mean i have 16gb of ram, shouldnt that be a lot of shared ram for the graphics card?

Faster RAM and overclocking are only options baring adding a real video card. Having 16GB of RAM does not mean it's all used by GPU, probably no more than 1GB is used for it now. GPU in that processor would not benefit of more than that anyway.

Thats kind of the point - integrated graphics really sucks for gaming, because it has many bad things, like using ram for video ram is very bad idea, also more dependency on cpu.

In an APU processor, GPU is integrated with it on the same die so it has to share RAM with the rest of the system. Many still good enough video cards use DDR3 which is not same as GDDR @100KHz or less. APUs can use memory @ 1866 MHz so that's not too bad. Problem is that GPU itself is weak and nowhere close to even same one on a discrete video card from same series. HD 5600 in this case is not good one for gaming anyway. Only way to get something more out of it is pretty radical OC of whole system. In this case, OCing processor, OCs GPU too and OCing RAM, OCes it for GPU too.

The system manufacturer determines how much memory is shared between the CPU and graphics. Increasing the available memory doesn't necessarily increase the amount of memory allocated to the graphics side of the house. They control the amount needed based on the hardware's requirement and to balance performance vs. heat, and other factors.

I upgraded my Lenovo Yoga 13 I-5 from 4 to 8GB and the allocated graphics memory actually went down a bit. With a little research, I found out that there was no way to change it.

Of course, it may be different for each manufacturer and system, but I believe it's not adjustable.

Yes, there's definite amount of memory a video card can use, above that is practically useless. More powerful cards need and can use more memory. Most lower grade ones wouldn't know what to do with more than 1 GB. If it's not adjustable in BIOS, it's not likely that it's set for more than one GB. Should be able to see that in memory management.

Okay thanks guys. I actually got the ram for free so no big let down. I guess I will just be okay with what i have now. I get 40 frames per second in highly populated areas in the game and 60-75 out in the open world, so I'm okay with that. Even though i have to have the graphics on the lowest setting. It did seem like I got a little boost after installing the ram but not enough to know for sure. I should have checked the numbers before I put the ram in and then checked them after to be sure. I think i was getting 25-30 in areas where i am getting 40 now, and 65 where i am getting around 75 now, but I can't be sure.

thanks for the knowledge!

Can you tell me which RAM and at which frequency it's set to. That processor (and GPU) can use minimum of 1866 MHZ so if it's under that you may be loosing some mainly GPU performance.

i feel like with 4077 graphics available i should be doing a lot better than i am. I;m playing world of warcraft and only getting 70 fps with the graphics on absolute low.

If you download this free program: CPU-Z CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting it will give you a lot of info on processor, memory and GPU. Under tab "Memory" you will find what it's set to now and under "SPD" you will find factory settings for memory.

my virus protection said it was infected so i didnt want to risk it
Junk that "virus protection" this is one of the most widespread programs around and as clean as whistle. Stupid AV, Let me guess, either Norton or Mcaffy ?

That's what I was afraid, it is 1600 MHz memory and that being a laptop it would not pay to go buying faster memory and OCing it-

I got the memory free luckily haha. umm, okay so what does that mean that its 1600 mhz and why doesn't it help putting more ram in? and does that just apply to the graphics? is it still useful to the rest of the computer that i've put more ram in?

Don't need more, faster memory would help a bit though.
