I google a bit and found you might mean a Vast satellite box. I have never tried to hook a laptop to my satellite box so I would say if you laptop has hdmi then you would just have to try it .

Vast satellite is free to air satellite offered free by the Australian government to people traveling in the outback .

HDMI on a laptop is almost always out only. I've heard that some all in ones will let you input a signal to the monitor but I wouldn't expect that feature on a laptop. I wouldn't try it unless the manual explicitly says you can. I'd be worried you might damage something.

Been there done that. I try not to post until I've had at least one cup of coffee. Actually I don't think it would damage anything but better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the laugh guys! Yea, I wouldn't go plugging anything into my laptop that isn't specifically designed to do so. Unless that box has a built in decoder all that is going to be on the output is a signal the laptop has no idea what to do with.

The biggest question would be does that box have an HDMI out or some other computer compatible output?

The OP hasn't said what they actually intend to do yet? Do they want to watch TV on the laptop or get internet though the satellite box?

G'day. We have a Coaster bus we have made into a motor home, we have a 12 volt sat vast box and dish, we have no room for a tv but have a place to put the laptop to use as a tv.

Warren, you still have not said what kind of output the sat box has. Is it a rf output that would normally go straight into a television? Are there different types of outputs?

Edit: If just a normal sat receiver box you are going to need something similar to this: RF Coax Video to HDMI VGA Converter Switch

Actually, forget that also as the HDMI and VGA connections on the laptop are output only. I had a brain fart. The only thing I possibly see working is some kind of wireless converter that would allow you to pick up the signal over wireless on your laptop. I'm not sure if SiliconDust boxes are satellite compatible, they may be.
