    Onboard or designated VGA

I have a set-up that consists of a core i5 CPU, 4GB RAM and a 750GB HDD however the graphics are integrated 'HD4000'. My question is would it be worthwhile installing a recent & full Autocad or full 3D modelling title, my laptop runs windows 8.1. Thanks.

Most modern computers should be capable of running Autocad, just be sure it is running the DirectX version or later as specified by AutoDesk in the program's System Requirements and has the video memory recommended.

    my laptop runs windows 8.1
Changing the graphics adapter in a Notebook/Laptop is not easy unless offered as a changeable option by the manufacturer as the adapter is part of the motherboard.

Thankyou for your help, I sent you on a 'bum steer' to use the vernacular, sorry about that should have read 'i5'. Before I 'solve' the thread if I could push you a little further by asking if you think it wiill be possible for onboard VGA to fully exploit the graphics element's of Autocad or a modelling program like 'Rhino3D' this will be the last time I impinge on you, thank's for your time & patience

I'm pretty sure that Notebook will run AutoCAD but not sure about any 3D programs, they do need power but the Core i5 should be up to the task. Always with large spreadsheets, databases, video editing, etc., the more memory/RAM the better.

Gervaise and Berton, if I may butt in. I have the i5-3230m and it is a pretty decent CPU. Although I also have a dedicated GPU, if I set the game Amnesia to use the HD4000 graphics, it runs fine even with some high settings. It is pretty 3D intensive game. Sorry, no Auto CAD to try. I do have 8GB RAM.

Gervaise, I just noticed you are using 32-bit OS. Not sure what impact that may have.

So embarrassing my typo's are coming thick & fast right now, I need to slow down a little yeah it should say x64. I am glad to see you get decent results via gaming with same cpu, I will have to try a spec intensive game myself who knows maybe I will finally get to experience turbo - boost kicking in. Thank's for input.
