AMD Radeon HD 6470M erratically crashes c/back from sleep

    HP Elitebook 8460p Notebook.
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz, 16GB Ram,
Single video adapter, External (displayport connected) 2nd monitor HP Elite L2201x

Using today Windows 8.1 update 1 (64Bit) with the HP provided (8.1 compatible) latest AMD video driver.
The laptop was working "perfectly" until the last video driver update (Windows 8.1) . The problem happens in 8, 8.1, and 8.1 update 1.

The crash (and automatic re-start) occurs erratically 1-3 times/week always when coming back from sleep mode.
Despite this particular problem the PC "always" works flawlessly.
The PC is used for C/C++ development, no big video demand, it runs cool, of course not overclocked; a typical workstation.

I've contacted HP (see the link) providing the after crash memory.dmp information showing
    a DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: GRAPHICS_DRIVER_TDR_FAULT problem in the AMD driver :
    Re: 8460p (video AMD) Win 8.0 x64 , video driver sp64287.exe... - HP Support Forum - 3498901
They do nothing but I do not really know if they are the ones that have to or if AMD should fix this kind of things.

I have also contacted AMD and they "somehow" do recognize their stuff "have issues" related to
DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: GRAPHICS_DRIVER_TDR_FAULT but they blindly blame Microsoft:
AMD Support and Game Forums - Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

AMD in my case ended up recommending not using the sleep mode! (not kidding):
AMD Support and Game Forums - AMD Radeon HD 6470M DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: GRAPHICS_DRIVER_TDR_FAULT

I have attached a debuglog.txt obtained from an after crash memory.dmp
I appreciate any help on this issue.
    Thanks a lot

Use a system restore point earlier to when the update was installed. Never update a driver through Windows Update, Hide them as they are not reliable. Any driver update should be done directly with the device manufacture.

    1) I cannot use a restore point going back to Windows 8.0 now that I need a driver 8.1/update compatible
    2) The update was performed with the utility provided by the Notebook Manufacturer (HP) the one that includes the corresponding AMD drivers and applications.

I'm really desperate with this issue and neither HP nor AMP are willing to provide a solution. I WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY AMD video cards; their support is PATHETIC

lf it was OK before installing the driver update try to rollback the driver in Device Manager.

    the former driver is not 8.1 compatible; then I cannot go back;
All this mess began when Microsoft released 8.1 and at a point I found myself forced to update the OS.

What is the driver version you are using now?

You lost me here a bit:
"Using today Windows 8.1 update 1 (64Bit) with the HP provided (8.1 compatible) latest AMD video driver.
The laptop was working "perfectly until the last video driver update (Windows 8.1) . The problem happens in 8, 8.1, and 8.1 update 1."
When did you update the driver and from where, through the Windows Update or with the manufacturer?

The Notebook was with 8.0 working "perfectly" with some driver version compatible with 8.0.
At some point I've been forced to upgrade to 8.1, then at that moment I updated the video driver to the last version (8.1 compatible) (on a production PC I never update drivers if there's not a strong reason for doing so).
Since that day this nightmare is on and on...
I'm "always" using the official drivers distributed by the Notebook Manufacturer (HP) and I install them with the package that HP provides; never installing them through the Windows Update.
I have contacted AMD as I have said in my first post but I have never installed drivers coming directly from them; always from HP.

I still would like to know the driver version that is there now so I may find a more compatible driver.

Uninstall the driver you have now, reboot and let Windows install its own generic driver. Sometimes these drivers are better than the manufacturers.

I already did that, the GPU ends up with missing/very old drivers that video converters need. As soon as AMD keeps refusing to fix their drivers this is a catch 22

Please see what AMD say here about GRAPHICS_DRIVER_TDR_FAULT; They Are SHAMELESS !
AMD Support and Game Forums - Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

This is the typical case of a company producing CRAPWARE without caring at all about their customers.
Bottom line "do not buy anything with ATI/AMD graphic cards EVER !
